Champion Sports Medicine, PLLC is a provider of comprehensive sports medicine services for the city of San Antonio and surrounding areas.
We offer sports medicine care for pediatrics, adolescents and adults, rehabilitation prescription, sports nutrition counseling, and fitness guidance. Our clients receive diagnosis and treatment of injuries and musculoskeletal complaints, instruction on injury prevention and the means to improve their sports performance and fitness. We are centrally located just North of 410 / Blanco and also offer a satellite clinic in Bulverde on Wednesdays.
Shaylon D. Rettig, MD, MBA Dr. Rettig is a graduate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he was a four-year starter on the Men’s Basketball team, helping his team to a berth in the NAIA National Tournament his senior year. Dr. Rettig attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his pediatric residency and served as pediatric chief resident at Pitt County Memorial Hospital/Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He received his MBA from East Carolina University College of Business. Dr. Rettig completed his pediatric sports medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio under the tutelage of Jorge Gómez, MD, MS. Dr. Rettig is the sports medicine physician for Edgewood ISD and medical consultant for South San Antonio, Southwest and Edgewood ISDs. He has served as volunteer Medical Director for Dallas/Fort Worth Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk for the four years. He also serves as one of the volunteer physicians for Justin® Sports Medicine team for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Dr. Rettig also volunteers for some local boxing tournaments including the San Antonio Golden Gloves. Dr. Rettig is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Medical Professional. His interests include helping golfers identify major physical performance factors that limit them from reaching their potential and helping injured golfers. Dr. Rettig uses a golf performance evaluation and SFMA, Selective Functional Movement Assessment, as a tool to identify limiting factors. Dr. Rettig was born and raised in Dallas, and yes he is a Mavericks fan with the Spurs following in a close second. He was also an Air Force brat and grew up in Northern California. He has three young boys and a beautiful wife who is a neonatal nurse practitioner.
All-Star Staff Melissa Gonzalez, Office Manager – firstname.lastname@example.org Melissa has been a part of the Champion Sports Medicine family since 2007. A graduate from La Vernia High School, she started off in the office as an extern from Kaplan careers. Through her dedication and hard work, she is now in charge of running operations at Champion. She enjoys weekend getaways with her two sons and daughter, who affectionately call her “Mama Bear”.
